2. The Epic Challenge: Lions Karoo to Coast MTB Race
Why it’s a must-do: For the riders, this is the bucket-list 100 km mountain bike race—a legendary test of grit and endurance that traverses one of the most breathtaking routes in the country, from the arid beauty of Uniondale, over the Outeniqua Mountains, and down into the lush forests of Knysna. For the rest of us, it’s a spectator’s dream. The energy in Uniondale over the weekend is electric. Arrive early on Friday for the Wine and Wheels Expo, soak up the pre-race buzz, and then cheer on the thousands of cyclists as they embark on their epic journey on Sunday morning. It’s a true celebration of human spirit and our incredible landscape.

3. The Festive Gathering: Oktoberfest at Fancourt
Why it’s a must-do: Dust off your dirndls and lederhosen, because Fancourt is hosting an Oktoberfest with a distinctly sophisticated South African flair. Kick off the weekend with a dose of pure country magic. The Tribute to Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers is set to be a night of timeless hits that will have you singing along from start to finish. Held at the ever-popular Blend, it’s the perfect relaxed setting to ease into the weekend. If you’re ready to relive the raw energy of the 90s, head back to Blend for A Tribute to Nirvana. Performed by the incredible Cantrel, this is your chance to grunge-out to all your favourite hits. Expect a high-energy, no-frills night of pure rock nostalgia.

The Jubilee Creek picnic site offers a beautiful, easy trail along the river. Or, for something a bit more immersive, try one of the three circular Elephant Trails that start from the Diepwalle Forest Station. Afterwards, treat yourself to a well-deserved coffee and pastry at one of the fantastic waterside cafés on Thesen Island.
The Local Secret: A Taste of Tranquility
Every now and then, you stumble upon a place that feels like it was put there just for you. This week’s secret is exactly that: the Blue Rocks Cafe and Grill in Nature’s Valley. An Important Update from Knysna
You may have seen in the news that the Western Cape Government has made the decision to dissolve the Knysna Municipal Council and appoint an administrator. While this is significant news for residents, it’s also a moment to recognize the incredible resilience of the Knysna community.
